Mattie focuses on each horse as an individual, watching how they move, how their hooves are growing and wearing, and how comfortable they are in their bodies before each trim. Her goal is to find the footfall and trim pattern that matches your individual horse's conformation and needs so he/she will be the most comfortable possible. Hoof care should be natural, simple, and enhance your horse's movement and daily needs - whether he is a backyard pal or she is a top competitor!
Mattie has three main goals for your horse every trim:
A truly transitioned barefoot horse is a thing of beauty! Horses are capable of being barefoot (or lightly supported with hoof boots) for all terrains and daily demands. Barefoot horses are more sure-footed, confident on all surfaces/terrains, and can stay comfortable for many, many years (as proved by the many "senior citizens" with regular work and comfort that Mattie trims). Many factors can help/enhance a great barefoot transition - including nutrition/diet, amount of movement/exercise, and body comfort. Mattie will help you and your horse succeed through consultations and supplemental bodywork!
Mattie has three main goals for your horse every trim:
- The horse is comfortable - before, during, and after the trim.
- His/her hooves are trimmed to match how the body conformation dictates.
- Hooves should be balanced so the foot lands squarely, cleanly, and heel first each step.
